Devdas
Devdas, tagged “a grand saga of timeless love,” was the first Bollywood-style film to be screened at the prestigious Cannes film festival in 2003. It was significant for Indian cinema that a film coming out of the proletarian Bollywood genre was given prominent international recognition and exposure.

The classic romantic tale (four films have been based on the novel) is set in a glittering fantasy world and stars Indian megastar Shahrukh Khan and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai. At a price tag of $12 million, Devdas easily overtook Lagaan as the most expensive Indian film ever made.
