THUNDER IN GUYANA

preview
schedule
Janet Rosenberg as a young woman, smiling and standing outside. Janet Rosenberg Jagan, now older, as the president of Guyana, smiling and holding her hands up in victory.
How did a 77-year-old Jewish woman from Chicago become the president of a South American country?

In the 1940s, Janet Jagan left the Midwestern suburbs with her new husband for his native Guyana, where they fought the British for independence and sparked a socialist revolution.

Janet’s cousin, filmmaker Suzanne Wasserman, takes an intimate look at the life story of the first American-born woman to ever lead a nation.
