Pat Coley's Day Book
Following daily doses of percoset, sudaphedrin, and a calcium supplement, Pat serves herself three cans of liquefied food through a feeding tube which she connects, through an attachment, into her own stomach without assistance. Three times each week, Pat takes a shower, requiring the assistance of a volunteer from the Care Team Ministry (A Faith in Action program) to help her put the brace back on her arm. On off days, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Pat does a chair exercise program for half an hour, kicking her feet, and moving her arms with music in a class led by an 80-year-old volunteer.
Pat often gets around -- usually to the drug store and the grocery store -- on her electric scooter. But when her doctor appointments are too far away, she must pay out-of-pocket for a van service pick her up at her door and bring her back home.
Pat reads a lot of mysteries and watches television in the evening. Before bed each night, she gets on her computer to play bridge with friends in Florida, Texas, and New Jersey. She takes her medications before bedtime, with an additional drug for bladder difficulties that helps her sleep. |
