Christina: How young people were affected by September 11th

Since September 11th, I think people my age are taking life that much more seriously. We are learning about history in classes, but we have realized that we are witnessing history, too, and it's making us value our lives and the lives of others around us. Every day is a gift that we know we are so lucky to receive.

This has even helped me understand what other young people are going through in the world. I think about the problems I complain about on a regular basis, and I can't imagine explaining to my mother that today my school was attacked or having to get used to the sound of violence and destruction right outside my door. I am so grateful that I don't have to deal with things like this on an everyday basis.

Since September 11th, I have become more aware of how other people live in their countries. I have seen that it is extremely sad to have to deal with this tragedy for just one day. I couldn't imagine having to deal with this everyday. I know that some people in other parts of the world endure tragedy after tragedy, and I have so much respect for those people who can just gather themselves up again after something so sad and continue with their lives. That is a hard task and if you can do it, I have nothing but respect for you for that reason alone.
