Map: Palestine and Jerusalem

The Arabs focused their attacks on the Hejaz railway. They became experts at not just derailing trains but also sabotaging miles of track, which ensured vital reinforcements did not reach the front line in Palestine.

This work was highly dangerous, as the Turks defended every mile of track, but it had the desired effect and stretched the Turks to breaking point.

With the front-line in Palestine crippled by the work of Feisal and Lawrence, General Allenby's force of British, Australian and Indian troops pushed their way out of Egypt and headed north past Gaza.
