Over twenty years ago Bill Moyers spoke with educator Vartan Gregorian about the nation's intellectual and cultural priorities for the series A WORLD OF IDEAS. In the early years of the information explosion, Moyers and Gregorian discussed knowledge transmission and overload. It has been calculated that the available knowledge in the world doubles every 5 years; we are increasing our store of knowledge much faster than we are learning how to retrieve and use it. What is the danger of intellectual gridlock when the mind is jammed thinking about such questions? In this program with Bill Moyers, Brown University President Vartan Gregorian shares his views on the information age. Education must show a direct connection between this information and life, Gregorian says.
>Now in the 21st Century what are the priorities for our educational systems?
Vartan Gregorian is currently the president of the Carnegie Corporation. He served as the president of Brown University, and as the head of the New York Public Library for eight years.
