The 50-mile road that climbs to Logan Pass in the heart of Glacier National Park was an engineering marvel when it was built in the late 1920s. Stephen Mather insisted that its design show off the park's scenery as dramatically as possible, without being an eyesore on the landscape. It officially opened in 1933 and is now a National Historic Landmark.
