Lancelot Jones, Biscayne National Park
The descendant of slaves, Lancelot Jones refused lucrative offers from developers in the 1960s to buy his three small islands in Biscayne Bay, south of Miami. He wanted them preserved and protected for future generations. His land ultimately became part of Biscayne National Park.
