Colorado River, Grand Canyon National Park
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/parks/gra...
I have only ever looked over the rim of the Grand Canyon and tried to contemplate its size. Someday I'd love to see it from this point of view. I think the Colorado River is the greatest sculptor of all time.
Mesa Verde National Park
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/parks/mes...
North America's ancient history is remarkably preserved. Seeing Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde changed the way I look at the world.
Landscape and night sky from Grand View Point, Canyonlands National Park, Dan Duriscoe photograph
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/search/#k...
After visiting Canyonlands recently, I can't believe we never made the time to go before. Utah's canyon country is beyond mind boggling. This nighttime shot makes me smile.
The Auto Log, Sequoia National Park, circa 1920
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/search/#k...
When you travel out west, particularly through the Sierras, you can't help but wonder what the journey must have been like before there were roads. Sequoia NP is high in the mountains, and a modern road with lots of hairpin turns will lead you there. It's well worth the climb.
Yosemite Falls and meadow reflected in a seasonal pond, Yosemite National Park
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/parks/yos...
Lakes, rivers, waterfalls, granite mountains, lush green grass and trees... Yosemite is what I imagine Eden would be like. Only there's no question: this is a real place.
Old Faithful, Yellowstone National Park
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/parks/yel...
In Vegas we have fountains and volcanoes that explode at timed intervals for crowd enjoyment. Old Faithful puts on its show whether tourists have gathered or not. And they do gather, because it's always on schedule. The whole park is an incredible geothermal hot spot.
Grand Tetons reflected in a beaver pond
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/search/#k...
There's something about mountains that's just good for the soul. Grand Teton NP showcases the most breathtaking mountain views I've ever had the privilege of seeing.
Blue ridges and orange dawn glow from Clingman's Dome, Great Smoky Mountains National Park
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/search/#k...
This looks like a watercolor painting, but it's not. The Great Smoky Mountains have a comforting appeal. I guess that's why this is one of America's most visited parks.
Rainbow from South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/parks/gra...
The Grand Canyon may have been formed billions of years ago, but the way it looks constantly changes throughout the day. Every angle of the sun creates different highlights and shadows. Clouds and weather change the color and mood.
Sunset on the Pacific, Olympic National Park
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/search/#k...
Washington's Olympic NP is one of my favorites. Glacier topped mountains, rocky Pacific beaches where the forest meets the ocean and temperate rain forest all in one shot. Amazing.
Bryce Canyon National Park
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/search/#k...
I said, "Hodoo. Hodoo you think you're foolin'?"
Those things are called hoodoos, and no foolin' this place is INCREDIBLE.
Mount Rainier National Park
http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/search/#k...
Don't you just want to run through that grass singing "The Sound of Music"? That's how I felt when we were there. Rufus and I caught Mt. Rainier on a rare clear day, which somehow made it seem even MORE special.
