Make wise choices at the market.

some fish are loaded with mercury |
In making any seafood choices in the market, consider both how and where the product is grown or harvested. As a general rule, products created with fewer inputs (energy, water, chemicals) have fewer impacts on the environment. Also consider what your seafood ate before you eat it. Some carnivorous fish are loaded with mercury that builds up in them from the smaller animals they have consumed. Several excellent seafood guides can help. Support fisheries that are certified by the (MSC)
Marine Stewardship Council™ . The MSC has developed an environmental standard for sustainable and well-managed fisheries. This standard is created and consistently revised through worldwide consultation with scientists, fisheries experts, environmental organizations and other people who have a strong interest in preserving fish populations for the future. Remember that together our food choices can make a difference.

Reduce your fish consumption by going without for a change.
Going vegetarian doesn’t mean foregoing the health benefits of fish. Many of those beneficial omega-3 essential fatty acids actually come from the fish’s diet of algae and are available as vitamin supplements.

make a change |
It can even save you money and combat ocean acidification. Some easy steps include: changing your incandescent light bulbs to florescent; unplugging computers and appliances when not in use; carpooling or taking public transport when you can.
