Darius Elias
Senior Park Warden, Vuntut National Park of Canada

I was born and raised in Old Crow, Yukon Canada. At the age of 13 I moved to Whitehorse, Yukon to attend grade school, high school and then attend 4 years of college. I achieved 2 diplomas one in Renewable Resources and the other in Aboriginal Business Management. I now live in Old Crow and work as a Senior Park Warden for Vuntut National Park of Canada responsible for the resource conservation operations of public safety, law enforcement, resource management and visitor activities. Together with my wife Tina Dickson I have raised 2 sons Johnny Elias (age 3), Bohdi Elias (age 7), 1 daughter Rachael Elias (age 12) and 1 step daughter Heather Dickson (age 13).

During my youth I lived a subsistence lifestyle of hunting, fishing, trapping and learning traditional ways out on the land from March until mid June with my late Grand Mother and uncles; learning the traditional values and ways of the Vuntut Gwitchin and teachings of our family that were past down for generations. I continued to live this traditional way until I reached grade 7 and had to move to the city to attend junior high school. I chose to become a park warden mostly as result of the hard guidance from my grand mother who told me I had to fulfil the responsibility of "taking care of the land, water and wildlife" when I grew up. I treasure her teachings and guidance today as i have experienced a fulfilling and fun career as a park warden to date. I enjoy utilizing my formal western education and my traditional teachings day to day to look after all of what is Vuntut National Park as best as I can.
