Since it was first seen by members
of Coronado's expedition in
1540, the Grand Canyon has
remained one of the most awesome, enigmatic places in the West. When
the Powell Expedition finally made the first recorded journey down
the canyon in 1869, the feat
was almost as celebrated as the landing on the moon.
