The old Zuni Pueblo,
Hawikuh, was the starting point for Coronado's
disappointing campaign of conquest in 1540.
The Zuni had moved to their current pueblo by the time Frank
Hamilton Cushing arrived to begin his pathbreaking ethnological
studies in 1879.
