
1.15 Anasazi cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde
National Park, Colorado, as filmed by the makers of THE WEST. These vast
apartment-like structures, housing thousands of people, were constructed
about 1000 A.D. and abandoned little more than a century later, the inhabitants
presumably driven out by prolonged drought and raids by the ancestors
of the Navajo and Apache.
