William Clark portrait by Peale

1.34 Portrait of William Clark (detail) by Charles Wilson Peale. Co-leader of the Corps of Discovery, Clark was credited with saving the expedition from disaster on several occasions through his daring and resourcefulness. He was also chief map maker and artist, responsible for the finely observed portrayals of animal life the explorers brought back from their epic trek to the Pacific.
