Companion Products for THE WEST

THE WEST home videotape, DVD, companion book and companion CD are available through shopPBS or by calling 1-800-645-4PBS. The companion book for the series is titled, The West: An Illustrated History. It was written by Geoffrey C. Ward, co-writer of the script for the series. The soundtrack of the series features the haunting theme music composed by Matthias Gohl in a style evocative of Native American song.

Educators may be interested in a special classroom videotape edition of THE WEST which comes with a printed index that references every key person, place, event, issue and topic in the series. These items are cross-referenced by a time code, and the video displays a small clock in the right lower corner of the screen that can be used to locate a specific segment. The classroom videotape edition also includes an extensive curriculum package developed for junior and senior high schools. For information on the classroom edition of THE WEST, write to PBS Video, 1320 Braddock Place, Alexandria, VA 22314.
