Hello. My name is B.F. Skinner. The branch of psychology that I identify with is Behaviorism. I look at human behavior in terms of a person's response to his or her environment.
I suppose I have found some fame through devices I've created and through related experiments. One device, called the Air-Crib, is designed to be the ideal environment for the first two years of a child's life. This "baby tender" is a soundproof, air-conditioned, germ-free setting where the child, unencumbered by heavy clothing, has remarkable freedom of movement. Unfortunately, it was a good idea that never really caught on.
Another device I invented is what has become known as a Skinner box. The box is a controlled environment where a rat or some other small animal receives rewards and punishments, such as food and electric shock, in response to the animal's actions. The box records the actions, allowing researcher to assess behavior.
The Skinner box has shown how behavior is modified based on one's past history of rewards and punishments. It has been an invaluable aid in the development of Behaviorism.
