Clear, thick plastic lets sunlight into the greenhouse, and it protects the plants from the blistering heat outside. Unfortunately, plastic scratches easily, and the seams, or connections between the plastic panels, tend to leak.
In 1988, the Missouri Botanical Garden closed its huge geodesic greenhouse, the Climatron, when the Plexiglas panels in the dome became scarred and cloudy. The panels were so dingy they blocked 70 percent of the sunlight coming into the Climatron!
You don't want this to happen to the Char County Botanical Garden. Try another dome option.
