Inauguration Plans Move Forward

inauguration-prepPlans are being completed for President Obama’s second inaugural, but controversy has already prompted a change. Atlanta evangelical pastor Louie Giglio was selected to give the benediction, but he bowed out after some activist groups criticized a sermon he gave in the 1990s against homosexuality. Giglio said he didn’t want the uproar to become a distraction.

Myrlie Evers-Williams, widow of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers, will deliver the invocation.

As he did four years ago, President Obama will use Abraham Lincoln’s Bible when he takes the oath of office. And this time he will also use a Bible of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of King’s March on Washington and the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.
