Bosnia Field Report: Foca, Once the Country’s Black Hole

Bosnia’s Foca river valley was the site of some of the worst atrocities in the mid-1990s, when Bosnian Serbs executed and imprisoned Muslim and Croat civilians. Women, War & Peace visits the region 15 years on to interview Muslims who are finally returning to the area, as well as community leaders working to rebuild despite on-going ethnic tensions.

Interactive Map: Understanding the Dayton Accords

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs have largely migrated to different regions in the country along ethnic lines. Our interactive map illustrates this persistent tension by showing the shifting ethnic distributions within Bosnia and Herzegovina before, during and after the Dayton Accords.
