The temporary PATH station will be replaced with a permanent World Trade Center transportation hub, as depicted in the above rendering. The Port Authority selected Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava to design the new hub, which is scheduled for completion in 2009. Calatrava designed the station as a freestanding structure of glass and steel, resembling a bird poised for flight.
