A Cuban term for the rhythmic ostinato that drives danzón. Curiously, cinquillo is one of the few rhythmic figurations found in African derived genres consistently throughout the Caribbean. In addition to danzón, its presence is unmistakable in Haitian vodou drumming, West Indian calypso and santería music. |
