HOME Eakins' Camera IMAGES: 1881 EAKINS' PICTURE PAINTINGS PHOTOGRAPHY MADE EASY Family Photo at the Beach WORLD EVENTS Eakins takes his first photographs in 1880 of his family at home and at the beach. In 1881, he buys his first camera, made by the American Optical Company, and turns it to subjects for use in his paintings. Throughout America, amateur photography is exploding as portable, inexpensive cameras and development processes are made available to the general public.
