China
Natural boundaries of desert, mountains and ocean established a captive, feeder population
for the Chinese Empire, whilst limiting the impact of any external influence from the south
or west. As a result, Imperial China remained self-sufficient, but culturally isolated -
until the twentieth century.
Only now is the full potential of this resource-rich territory being realised, with the
influence of western technologies and ideas on the agricultural economy of the east.
