On March 3, NewsHour EXTRA held a Q&A with Dr. Peter Hotez over Zoom. Dr. Hotez is a vaccine scientist who has been studying the coronavirus for more than a decade. He serves as founding dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine, Professor of Pediatrics and Molecular Virology & Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine , where he is also Director of the Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development.

The PBS conversation was hosted by Sari Beth Rosenberg , NYC public school teacher, and was attended by several dozen educators, school staff and community members.

The discussion focused on questions about getting vaccinated, including questions about school safety for teachers, students and family members back home; what happens after a person is vaccinated; the rise of variants; reasons for vaccine hesitancy and the importance of data.
