the nation's 1,173 regionally accredited community, junior, and technical
colleges - the largest sector of higher education. Community colleges
enroll almost half (45 percent) of all U.S. undergraduates, close to 10.6

American Field Service
AFS
is one of the world's largest community-based volunteer organizations
dedicated to building a more just and peaceful world through international
student exchange. More than 10,000 students, young adults and teachers
participate in AFS exchange programs each year. Opportunities for language
learning, cultural immersion, new friendships and personal growth are
core to the AFS experience.
Americans for Informed
Democracy
Americans
for Informed Democracy (AID) is a non-partisan educational organization,
with members at over 65 universities, that raises awareness in the U.S.
about world opinions of American foreign policy. Since its recent establishment
in October of 2002, AID has brought together thousands of young leaders
and concerned citizens to discuss anti-Americanism, the transatlantic
partnership, U.S.-Islamic world relations, and other topics related to
America's role in the world.
Coalition For American
Leadership Abroad
The
Coalition for American Leadership Abroad (COLEAD) is a broad based non-profit
organization consisting of 52 member organizations that are dedicated
to furthering well informed public debate about international issues affecting
U.S. interests. The Coalition believes that America's vital interests,
well-being and security remain deeply affected by events beyond our borders
and that this requires active American leadership. American engagement
abroad is consistent with and complements addressing America 's domestic
concerns with strength and wisdom. The U.S. can enhance both global peace
and domestic prosperity by exercising similar leadership in the world.

Leadership Association
The
Community Leadership Association enhances the capacity of community leadership
programs to strengthen and serve their communities. The Community Leadership
Association is a non-profit organization, founded in 1979, dedicated to
nurturing leadership in communities throughout the United States and internationally.
Federation of
State Humanities Councils
The Federation of State Humanities Councils is the national membership
organization of the private state affiliates of the National Endowment
for the Humanities. The state humanities councils, located in each of
the 50 states, have been working for nearly 30 years to educate citizens
about our history and culture and stimulate dialogue about contemporary
issues of concern. Collaborating with libraries, museums, churches and
other religious institutions, schools, senior centers, historical societies,
community centers, and others, state humanities councils have supported
community forums and discussions; teacher institutes and seminars; a Speakers
Bureau, Chautauqua or reading-and-discussion programs in rural and inner
city communities and humanities-based family literacy programs.
Fulbright
Association
The
Fulbright Association is the private, non-profit membership organization
of Fulbright alumni and supporters committed to fostering international
awareness and understanding through advocating increased world-wide support
for Fulbright exchanges; enriching the Fulbright experience; and facilitating
lifelong interaction among alumni and current participants. The Fulbright
Association has 48 chapters throughout the United States, organized and
operated by volunteers. Chapters conduct activities that provide educational
and cultural programs serving Fulbrighters and their host communities.
General Federation of Women's
Clubs (GFWC)
The
General Federation of Women's Clubs works locally, through thousands of
clubs in the U.S. and in 20 countries abroad, to promote education, stress
civic involvement, and work toward world peace and understanding. Women's
Clubs are involved in supporting educational and cultural exchanges, hosting
international students and visitors, organizing food distribution and
fund-raising projects, including partnering with the U.N. on humanitarian
projects, and sponsoring discussion groups on international issues.
Hands On Network
Hands
On Network (formerly CityCares) is an innovative alliance of volunteer
organizations transforming people and communities through service and
civic engagement. With proven best practices for success, Hands On Network
develops entrepreneurial strategies for bridging community resources and
needs. Hands On Network provides leading-edge national programming, participation
in shaping national service policy and technology support. There are 35
Hands On Network organizations in U.S. including international affiliates
in the Philippines and China, as well as 20 partner organizations in the
United Kingdom. Headquartered in Atlanta, Hands On Network is a growing
coalition of organizations here and abroad, all utilizing the Hands On
Network model for volunteer mobilization and management.
Kiwanis International
Over
8,200 Kiwanis clubs around the country sponsor service projects as well
as weekly club meetings of business and professional men and women in
their community. Service projects address needs within the community,
most often promoting children's welfare. Kiwanis also teaches leadership
skills to young people through K-Kids clubs at the elementary school level,
Builders Clubs in middle school and junior highs, Key Clubs in high schools,
and Circle K clubs at the collegiate level.
League of Women Voters
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. In addition to matters of domestic policy, the League focuses on five areas of International Relations: Global Democracy Initiatives, the United Nations, Arms Control, Military Spending and Trade.
The National Black
Chamber of Commerce
The
National Black Chamber of Commerce, with 190 local, national and international
affiliate chapters, is dedicated to the economic empowerment of African
American communities. The NBCC sponsored the largest trade mission to
Brazil and recently conducted a cultural exploration mission to Cuba.
The NBCC hosts conferences and online dialogues for its members as well
as outreach programs and training in entrepreneurial leadership for college
students at historically black colleges.
National Council for International

NCIV
is a national network of program agencies and 95 community-based organizations.
These nonprofit groups design and implement professional programs and
provide cultural activities and home hospitality opportunities for foreign
leaders, specialists, and international scholars.
National Council on Aging
Founded in 1950, the National Council on Aging is a national network of organizations and individuals dedicated to improving the health and independence of older persons; increasing their continuing contributions to communities, society and future generations; and building caring communities.
National Peace Corps Association
The National Peace Corps Association is the non-profit association of returned Peace Corps volunteers, former staff and friends committed to fostering peace through service, education and advocacy.

Urban League Young Professionals
National
Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP), a volunteer auxiliary dedicated
to bringing the next generation of leaders into the Urban League movement,
serves as an umbrella over nearly four dozen Urban League Young Professional
chapters across the country. Through these chapters, thousands of young
professionals work to advance the Urban League agenda through community,
corporate and social activism. The mission of National Urban League Young
Professionals (NULYP) is to engage young professionals in the National
Urban League's movement towards the achievement of social and economic
equality.
SeniorNet
SeniorNet
is a nonprofit organization that supports the use of computer technologies
by adults 50 years of age and older to enable them to enrich their lives
and share their knowledge and wisdom with others. SeniorNet provides opportunities
for education and community at Learning Center locations and on the Web
at www.seniornet.org, as well as occasions for older adults to share eyewitness
testimonials to important events and trends of the 20th Century.
Sister Cities International
Sister
Cities International (SCI) is a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network creating
and strengthening partnerships between U.S. and international communities
in an effort to increase global cooperation at the municipal level, to
promote cultural understanding and to stimulate economic development.
SCI leads the movement for local community development and volunteer action
by motivating and empowering private citizens, municipal officials and
business leaders to conduct long-term programs of mutual benefit.
World
Affairs Councils of America
The
World Affairs Councils, with 80 member councils and 27 affiliates, offer
international exchanges, school programs, teacher workshops, model United
Nations programs, foreign policy discussions, national opinion polling,
travel programs, journals, newspaper columns, and local radio and television
programs. Current projects are World Bank Town Meetings, EPA Symposia
on international environmental issues, State Department Town Meetings,
a commemorative series on Contemporary Europe and the legacy of the Marshall
Plan, Congressional Town Meetings, international education workshops,
and the World Affairs Journalism Fellowship. |
