Suzanne Pleshette is an award-winning actress, singer and author. She has starred in five television series, starting with the memorable "Bob Newhart Show," in which she appeared as Emily Hartley for six years; the controversial one-hour series "Nightingales"; and "The Boys Are Back."
Pleshette developed, co-produced and starred in the television series "Maggie Briggs" and "Bridges to Cross." She has had recurring roles on "The Single Guy" and, more recently, "Will & Grace," which led the Emmy-winning writer-producer team of Max Mutchnick and David Cohan to create the role of Claire for Pleshette in their new comedy series "Good Morning, Miami." She has four Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe Best-Actress nomination for her chilling portrayal of Leona Helmsley in "The Queen of Mean."
Discovered by the famed Sanford Meisner of The Group Theatre, the then 10-year old Pleshette was directed by him in her stage debut, a revival of the play "Truckline Café," which brought the adult Marlon Brando to stardom and the young Pleshette to the attention of the public for the first time.
She attended The High School of Performing Arts, Syracuse University and Finch College, and she studied privately with Sanford Meisner. Pleshette returned to the stage, as a young adult, in her first starring role in the play "Compulsion," one week after graduation. She followed that with successful turns as the female lead in several plays including "The Cold Wind and the Warm" and "The Miracle Worker."
Pleshette has appeared in more than 30 motion pictures, including Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds," Raoul Walsh's "A Distant Triumph" and Norman Jewison's "40 Pounds of Trouble." She had a triumphant return to the Broadway theater in the play "Special Occasions" and returned to feature films with a leading role in "The Lion King: Simba's Pride." This year, she will star in the feature "Spirited Away" for Disney films.
In 2001, Pleshette married her former Broadway leading man Tom Poston, who starred with her in the play "The Golden Fleecing." They currently reside in Los Angeles.
