The Blitz, sustained and intensive bombing of London by the German Luftwaffe, begins. Edward R. Murrow covers the bombings live from London's rooftops. The bombings continue nightly for 57 days, and do not end entirely until May 11, 1941, when Hitler moves his bombers eastward in preparation for Germany's invasion of Russia.
