December 13, 1943: Captain Henry T. Waskow, a company commander in the U.S. Army 36th Division, is killed in the mountains of Italy. In a column for Scripps-Howard, Ernie Pyle describes how a mule had carried Waskow's body to the base of the mountain, and how the soldiers who had served with Waskow said their goodbyes.
