This week on Washington Week:
Legal clouds loom over the 2024 election: Anticipation over the likely indictment of former President - and frontrunner for the GOP nomination in 2024 - Donald Trump heated-up on Thursday. Trump’s legal team met with special counsel Jack Smith, and the grand jury hearing Smith’s team’s evidence on efforts to overturn the 2020 election sat in Washington.
Donald Trump isn’t the only one making legal news that could have election fallout this week. President Biden’s son, Hunter’s plea deal on tax and gun charges is on hold after the expected rubber stamping of his deal was delayed over the Judge’s concerns it could be unconstitutional. The delay is giving fuel to Republican criticism of the Justice Department’s handling of Hunter Biden’s case, and is an unwelcome distraction for President Biden as he ramps up his 2024 reelection bid.
