Get Ready for Maigret Season 2

Maigret fans, your man in Paris is back—the contemporary adaptation of Georges Simenon’s quietly intuitive detective returns for a second season, with the Chief Inspector bringing the truth to light and dealing out his own type of justice. Season 2 debuts on MASTERPIECE Mystery! on Sunday, October 18 at 9/8c with young Maigret’s rising profile causing trouble within La Brigade Criminelle, even as he and Madame Maigret try to start a family.

What Crimes Does Maigret Investigate in Season 2?
Vastly different cases will be investigated across six episodes of Maigret Season 2: A suicide that Maigret blames himself for and insists on probing, the disappearance of an anti-corruption politician, and the murder of a high-profile businessman, which begs to be solved quickly but is far more complicated than it seems. Season 2’s cases are based on three of Georges Simenon’s best-known Maigret novels: The Hanged Man of Saint—Pholien, The Yellow Dog, and Maigret’s Revolver, which is also combined with the short story, Monsieur Monday. Multiple cases but just one Maigret—which will test him most deeply?
Are the Maigrets Expecting?
Jules and Louise Maigret still long to have a child after past attempts have failed. The two have a solid and happy marriage; the only shadow in their lives is the family they’ve yet to have. As they resolve to keep trying, the question of motherhood echoes through Maigret’s cases as well, where he encounters individuals confronting the joys, sacrifices, and complications of parenthood. Would the Maigrets consider big changes in their home or careers to achieve their goal?
Can the Young Maigret Maintain His Authority?
Maigret’s team is thrown into turmoil in Season 2, even as he contends with the pressures of some very dark investigations. Boss and former mentor, Director of Police Xavier Guichard, grows wary of Maigret’s rising profile and decides to rein him in. A member of La Brigade Criminelle leaves the department, another is transferred, and a replacement immediately creates friction within the tightknit team. How will Maigret cope in a job that is increasingly working against him?
Will “Les Maigrets” Remain Intact?
It’s an extremely loyal team of Les Maigrets who work for Chief Inspector Jules Maigret (Benjamin Wainwright) at the Brigade Criminelle, Paris’s elite investigative unit. As Season 2 starts, two of its five members have left the team—Joseph Torrence (Blake Harrison) is working in Marseille and the disgraced and ostracized Justin Cavre (Rob Kazinsky) has transferred to the Judiciaire’s internal affairs office, IGDS. Three members remain: Fast-driving and self-certain Detective Berthe Janvier (Shaniqua Okwok), computer expert Detective Karim LaPointe (Reda Elazouar), and Maigret’s steady number 2, Sergeant Andrea Lucas (Kerrie Hayes).
As Season 2 continues, a crucial member of Les Maigrets is also transferred to IGDS in a Machiavellian attempt by Director of Police Guichard (Nathaniel Parker of Inspector Lynley fame) to manipulate and weaken the young Chief Inspector. A new face thens fall under Maigret’s supervision—the keen but green George Bonfils (Alex Bhat), who’s immediately out of his depth and at odds with his peers. What will these dramatic changes mean for the trustworthy and efficient team Maigret had assembled?
