How did you do on the quiz? Did you find the problems difficult? The addition and multiplication tables we supplied you with, if you haven't already figured it out, were not in the typical base-ten mathematical format. They were in what is called base-six, a perfectly valid but not very commonly used format.

This exercise was intended to make you feel like you did when you first started studying math. Remember when you weren't sure what 2 x 6 equaled -- how slowly and methodically you had to work? What if you were a senior in high school and you still didn't know your basic math facts? How difficult would it be to correctly answer a complex word problem or to find the sum of three angles?
