We're approaching a billion motor vehicles, worldwide And in
this country we have more light duty vehicles than we have
drivers, so it's an enormous transportation system. We produce
about 4 trillion passenger miles of travel every year with our
transportation system. It's enough to take each human being in
the United States around the world once every 18 months. Just
fantastic. And we consume more than 6,000 gallons of fuel
every second. So I think this gives you a sense of the scale.
In terms of the scale relative to our resources, a quarter of
all the petroleum ever consumed in the history of the world
was consumed in the last 10 years, so we are consuming at an
accelerating rate.
