Many automakers, including all of the big three, have a
well-earned reputation for stomping on their own innovation.
They have wonderful engineers who create miraculous new stuff
and meanwhile, the legal and lobbying arms of the same company
are working hard to destroy the market for those products.
This has happened repeatedly and I don't know how they can
expect to recruit the best young engineers once they have that
reputation. So it's going to take a while to overcome it and
its really discomforting for people who put their hearts into
developing, for example, the wonderful line of electric
vehicles at GM only to have that effort squashed, to see the
company now scrambling to recreate what they already did. But
now they've all left. In fact, two of them are working for me
now.
