(Gr. 5-8) Objective To acquaint students with the
activities of veterinary doctors and veterinary hospitals.
Materials
Procedure In a previous class, the students of the
Academically Gifted/Talented Youth Program of Montclair State
University had been exposed to the general aspects of a career in
veterinary medicine such as the requirements, course work, types of
practice, and types of work done by DVMs.
The NOVA video presents real-life situations that had been
previously described in a "dry" form and allows students to get a
better understanding of the day-to-day situations a veterinary
doctor will encounter, up to and including the need to euthanize
animals in some cases.
Assessment Students are given a case summary sheet to
use to describe the happenings in each of the cases discussed in the
video with special emphasis on the problem afflicting the animal,
the techniques used, and the outcome.
