No, Alfred Wegener's concept can't help you measure. But without it, you might not have thought there was a need to measure anything. Wegener was the scientist who proposed in 1912 that the continents used to be all one supercontinent that broke up and drifted apart. However, it wasn't until recently that Wegener's theory has been accepted (after he died) and woven into the modern theory of plate tectonics.
