David Baltimore, biologist and President California Institute of Technology
The
greatest challenge of the next century may well be for our
civilization to come to terms with the new information that
will be coming from modern biology. Knowing intimately our
genes, being able to manipulate them, knowing how our brain
processes information and how it makes conscious decisions are
all parts of our future. Using this information to enhance our
health and well-being without allowing political forces to use
it for destructive, intrusive, or manipulative purposes will
be a monumental challenge.
