Ticket to More Fun Ideas
Here's some ideas you can pursue on your own:
- Return of the Multipliers
Animated cartoons use 24 still pictures per second. If you flip your flipbook at that speed, how many pages would you need for a five-second movie? How many would you need for a whole minute?
King Kong on the Playground
Cartoons and models are used to create a lot of the violent animals and monsters you see on TV. Some psychologists think that when kids watch violence they act more violently on the playground. Do you agree or disagree? Watch a cartoon or special effect on TV. How does the violence make you feel? How is TV violence different from real violence?
Painted Faces
The person who does makeup for a show is called a makeup artist. Go to an art gallery or get a book about paintings at the library. Look at some portraits (paintings of people's faces). What would a makeup artist do to make these faces come alive on real people on the screen?
Beethoven's Third
What do you think about when you listen to different kinds of music? See if your library has a cassette tape of Tchaikovsky or Wynton Marsalis or some other musician you've heard of but never listened to. Compare their music to one of your favorite groups. What movie scenes would you imagine to go with the music? Listen to the soundtrack from a movie you've seen and notice the music they play during a special effect. How does the music add to the effect?
