The ancient Hanging Gardens of Babylon were destroyed long
ago. Since it was never noted by any of the Babylonian
historians, some people think the gardens were a myth and
never existed. However, several Greek historians (who came
after the Babylonians) wrote of King Nebuchadnezzar's palace
and its spectacular gardens. The gardens were built for his
wife who was homesick for the landscape of her native Media
(now northwest Iran). Current-day archaeologists are divided
over where in the palace the gardens may have existed.
