The Pharos of Alexandria is the youngest of the Seven Wonders.
This lighthouse was erected off of Pharos Island during the
reign of Ptolemy II Philadelphus (284-246 B.C.) It was called
the Pharos, which, because of its fame, came to mean
lighthouse all over the Greek world. Earthquakes decimated the
structure, and in 1480 A.D. a fort was built where the
Lighthouse once stood.
