How did you achieve the American Dream?

The American Dream means something different to everybody, but most people can agree on one aspect of it: it can’t be achieved alone.

Bob McKinnon is the creator of our Your American Dream Score tool, and now he’s sharing his own American Dream story. In this Tedx speech he gave in Tarrytown, NY last month, he shares how his “Dream Team” of supporters helped him get to where he is today. Born on what he calls “the lowest rung of the ladder,” Bob grew up in poverty. No one in his family went to college and his mother worked as a bartender to support her three children. But somehow, he managed to get “near the top.” In his Ted Talk, Bob answers the question: How did I end up here? A question we’ve all asked ourselves before.

But he spends the rest of the talk exploring a new question:

Who is your “Dream Team?”

Take a few minutes to take our quiz to learn more about how you got to where you are today. Through a series of questions about your life, you’ll find out what factors were working in your favor and what you had to overcome. At the end, you’ll receive an overall “American Dream Score” and a personalized summary of your results. Be sure to share your score and story and who your Dream Team is on our page.
