 | | Name: Norman Home: Bethel, Alaska What country did you emigrate from? Other When did you emigrate to the U.S.? BORN HERE How did you arrive in the U.S.? Came to realize that America was also my Destiny Why did you immigrate to the U.S.? Unfortunely, I was born here in the United States, and I am a United States Citizen, but I am proud to say that I am Native American from Alaska.
I felt a little distraught about the families and the people who moved here to America to find freedom, peace, and prosperity.
I feel sorry for these foreigners who moved here to find the American way of life, but my story is also similar to the foreigners. One day, in college, I took many college English classes at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and found my way to receiving a BA Degree in English.
I found that many many centuries of shame and torture were also done to Native Americans. I read disheartening stories of the Cherokee Indians who were removed in the 1830's during the presidency Andrew Jackson. They were removed Indians because gold was discovered during these years, but I feel that the American government, at the time, wanted the great and wonderful land that lies beyong the Cherokee Nation.
Today, I work as a grant writer for our regoinal non-profit corporation. After I earned my BA Degree in English, I thought that helping my own people was the way to help them to discover the "American Dream" would be to live the life of a college graduate.
According to your show that I just saw about the foreigners moving to America to escape the torture and suffering, we, Native Americans, also suffered, but now we live according to the United States Government standards. We, too, in our own country, suffered just as much as the Tibetens, the Jewish, and the Omish did. Today, we are also in control of our own destiny. We control our own social and health services.
We are thriving Americans, and developing our own infrastructure to serve our own people. Thank you.
