When did you emigrate to the U.S.? 1977

How did you arrive in the U.S.? I escaped from my country, after several months in Kenya and other countries I was granted political asylum.

Why did you immigrate to the U.S.? My parents were imprisoned after the take over of the military junta in 1974. My mother's incarceration was solely due to the fact that she was the grand daughter of the late Emperor Haile-Sellassie I. My mother perished in prison, as did the Emperor. After experiencing three years of very harsh living conditions marked by constant terror, and demoralization. We became one of the fortunate ones; when an American missionary smuggled us (my siblings and I ) from our country that had become a horrific place.
