How do you imagine God?

I don't imagine God. I think that whatever forces created the universe are outside of the realm of human understanding at this point in time.

My Beliefs
I believe ...

I believe that the universe is neither divine nor good or evil. I see it as morally neutral. I do believe in good & evil but that those things are inside of humans, not external forces.
I believe that life itself is sacred. With that in mind, I became a vegan.

My greatest moment of doubt was ...

when I was told by a good friend that my family was going to Hell because we don't go to Church. I had no bad thoughts about religions before that. I actually saw religion as a positive influence on children and people in general. After that, it dawned on me how divisive religions can be.

in nothing. My parents aren't religious. God & religion were not discussed in my parents' house except in relation to other people's beliefs.
I was raised as ...

an atheist... although my parents never spoke in those terms.
Are your beliefs or practices different from your parents? If so, how and why?

Yes a little. My parents weren't open with their atheism. My mother thinks it "sounds bad" to say she's atheist, so if asked, she'll say she's Catholic. If pressed, she'll admit that she doesn't believe in any of it. My father is a bit more open about his atheism, but really, both my parents are very private about their feelings. I'm comfortable with saying that I don't believe in any religion. In that way, I differ from my parents.

How I Practice My Faith
Where and when do you practice your faith?

My family celebrates Christmas, but just as a secular holiday with a tree & lights & food. Religion isn't part of the holiday. We celebrate it exactly the same way as we celebrate Thanksgiving except that we exchange gifts on Christmas.

How easy or difficult is it to live your faith? Why?

It's easy except during election years. I get so fed up with all the politicians talking about God and the Bible.

Religion & the Public Square
What should be the role of religion in politics?
your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator
Religion should have NO role in politics. I will not vote for a candidate who votes based on their religious beliefs. To me, that's very medieval.

Should courses about religion be taught in public schools? Why or why not?

I think, yes, they should but not to indoctrinate them in that religion. I think they could take World Religions classes in the same way that children learn about other cultures.

Should the Bible, Torah, Quran or other religious texts be taught as works of literature in public schools? Why or why not?

Yes, I think students should learn about all religions.

Has 9/11 had any impact on your thoughts about religion? Are you more/less interested in learning about other religions? Do you feel more/less comfortable expressing your religious beliefs?

No 9/11 didn't impact my beliefs at all. It had zero impact on my feelings about religion.
