If you have children, did becoming a parent change your relationship to faith? If so, how?

Yes. I want my children to ask hard questions and discover the answers for themselves, rather than being indoctrinated or coerced into something they did not choose.

I worship on Sunday morning with a contemplative moderate Baptist congregation. I study the Bible, Celtic Christianity, Tao Te Ching, Buddhism, and other books that have become immensely valuable to me. I also practice Buddhist meditation.

I am the only one in my family who studies and tries to implement other faith traditions in my own. Whatever is true and beautiful is worthy of consideration and respect.

What should be the role of religion in politics?

It should be a source of personal inspiration and strength for individuals and guide our personal choices, but it should not shape public policy beyond insuring that people of all faiths and no faith are all welcome at the table.

Are religious beliefs compromised by engaging in politics?
your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator
They don't have to be compromised but often are. It is hard for people to remain genuine in every respect when engaged in politics.
Has 9/11 had any impact on your thoughts about religion? Are you more/less interested in learning about other religions? Do you feel more/less comfortable expressing your religious beliefs?
your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator
Only in that it has helped to show that there are extremists in every faith tradition and that none of us should be judged as a whole because of them.
