How Do You Imagine God?
God in America and USA WEEKEND Magazine are partnering to explore Americans' images of God.

How do you imagine God? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I don't imagine it--I merely acknowledge it's existence through a logical conclusion leading me to suppose that a deity which created time and thus resulted in this universe exist(s/ed) I am not particularly keen on the whole he or she anthropomorphic deity concept as the deity I conclude exist(s/ed) is not an egotistical reflection of its supposed creation as many faiths would propose is the case

My Beliefs

The biggest misconception about my faith/belief system is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator What I believe is not as important as what I do, I expect nothing from this Deity nor do I believe I or this world holds any special place in its creation
The tenet/practice/teaching I appreciate most about my faith is ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator That societal guidelines are not divinely inspired but human constructs deemed necessary in order for groups to get along in an orderly fashion to avoid the destruction of our species.

My Faith History

As a child I believed ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator other stars had planets too
My spiritual journey has been ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator Non spiritual
I was raised as ... your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator A child
Are your beliefs or practices different from your parents? If so, how and why? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My mother is a Baptist, my father is dead whatever he was he is no longer that.
If you have children, did becoming a parent change your relationship to faith? If so, how? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I don't put my life in the hands of any fate or faith of any sort my own actions determine my future.

How I Practice My Faith

Does your family practice more than one religion or faith? If so, how do you blend the traditions? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My fiance is culturally Jewish but quite Agnostic we attend the in-laws family events and holy days mainly for the food and the reminders of the cultural history. My family is mostly christian of various denominations one or two wicca some atheists and I consider myself Deist.
How easy or difficult is it to live your faith? Why? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator What is difficult is explaining what a deist is to others many of my kind don't always agree on the matter.

Religion & the Public Square

What should be the role of religion in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator It plays none to me
Should courses about religion be taught in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator They have their place in the course work under humanities, but not in the sciences.
Should the Bible, Torah, Quran or other religious texts be taught as works of literature in public schools? Why or why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator All must be included, but not as the truth or laws of nature, just as literature bordering on fictitious accounts to be treated as one would treat Homer or Paul Bunyon
Do you feel comfortable discussing your faith with others? Why/why not? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator I am no longer comfortable even discussing my thoughts even amongst my own kind not so much out of embarrassment but out of boredom hearing the same old ideas over and over again--I feel the same way about all others thoughts I seem to have heard it all before. I would be fascinated were there some genuinely new ideas rather than old ones continuously repackaged.
Are religious beliefs compromised by engaging in politics? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator My actions are my own but they are not based on my beliefs.
Has 9/11 had any impact on your thoughts about religion? Are you more/less interested in learning about other religions? Do you feel more/less comfortable expressing your religious beliefs? your photo/ link/ video has been held for approval by a moderator 9/11 had no effect I studied on my own as I saw fit.
