New Infrastructure

One of the first tasks was to relocate three hundred years' worth of urban infrastructure—five thousand water pipes, sewer pipes, electric lines, telegraph lines, gas lines, phone lines, fire-alarm lines, cable television lines, even hydraulic tubes that once carried paper messages from building to building. The work took two years and some $150 million.
