luke Jill
Name: Luke
Luke was a stray. When we got him we were grieving the loss of our dog Jake. I was hesitant to love again as deeply as I had loved Jake. Luke charmed us with his affection and comedic acts. He helped us to love and laugh again.

gracie_spinnaker Name: Gracie
It was an oversite that I didn't mention that I live with Spinnaker. Again, thanks for putting my picture on this site.We do appreciate all the responsesand activity that's being generated.

lady madonna Danielle Becker
Name: Lady Madonna
Lady was given to me by my father as a college graduation gift, that was in the spring of 1994. She is my first dog and all the pets I have coupled her with afterward are really her pets (two Siamese cats and one Pekinese), she is the queen. She is so human, honestly, sometimes it is scary. She is, (and she will agree with me on this) a little princess.

Gracie Name: Gracie
Spinnaker gets all the lime light on this site. This is a chance to be shown off too. Thanks.

Pancho Name: Pancho
I found Pancho at an animal shelter with his hair so matted that he looked like a fuzzy soccer ball. He looked right into my eyes and "claimed" me as his own. On the drive home, I knew something terribly was wrong because everytime he tried to get comfortable on the front seat, he screamed. After a quick warm bath and a virtual shave, we headed for the vet. He was so loaded with parasites, he had to stay there (on IV's) for two days. We also discovered that he had a bone spur on his left back hip. Three months of fattening up later, he had his surgery on the hip. Although he still limps a little, he has been my best buddy for 12 years. He got his CD in three shows before we had to admit that the hip was not going to take jumping. Even though I have added numerous other rescues to the family since (there are six dogs here now), Pancho has never once failed to be a courteous older brother to them all. He's almost blind now and isn't quite as enthusiastic about his carrot, he continues to be a special friend.

Missy Steve Burkett
Name: Missy (But I call her messy )
when she was young she would jump up and grab my belt for me to hold on till i rubbed her head and loved to play ball. she has gone to work with me for over ten years now . she gaurds my truck on the job and has the run of it .When we get home she eats with us and then while we watch TV she retires to her bed.She will not sleep in a dog bed and hasn't. she has her own room with a twin bed a doggy door with its own porch and steps and a water Bowl(food stays in the kitchen) She just had her twelveth Birthday 03/20.

nickiJude Fine
Name: Nicki
Nicki was rescued in Montana in late December, and transferred to my rescue group, Senior Canine Rescue Society, in Alberta, Canada, in early January. She was seriously afflicted with mange when we got her - half bald, emaciated, no muscle tone and with that sad "old dog who has given up" look in her eyes. 2 1/2 months of aggressive treatment and maximum nutrition later, she is shiny, bouncy, happy and her eyes glow! Her little butt end never stops wiggling. She is a joy to have around and will be looking for her very own forever home soon. See her "before" and "after" pictures!

barneyNancy Hopkins
Name: Barney
This is Barney and his sleigh for the local Reindog Parade. His people worked really hard on his sleigh and Barn looking great pulling two little girls in the parade, but alas, he won no prize. Barney didn't care. He lives to make people smile and he over-achieved that day!

generalTerry Hirneisen
Name: General
Although Pam and I have rescued numerous dogs over the years, one Samoyed came with 6 extra bundles. General quickly became my very special pal. This Golden Retreiver cross became my friend of friends. His eyes always were filled with the joy and happiness of life. He was there to serve. The picture of health, General was the healthiest of the litter and full of vitality. He was fun loving and relesihed playing games with my stallion Majo. He was the very definition of loyal and gave me more than I could ever return. When I thought we were just begining and General was about to turn four years old, he developed Lymphoma. He had never been sick and now I was told he was terminally ill. The symptoms were swift. We did our best to DELAY THE INEVITABLE. After Chemo Therapy, this wonderous General even ran with Majo again, albeit not with quite the stamina he once knew. But General isn't running here now. General no longer flies down a stretch of beach or trail with his enthusiasm to be part of the team. http://majos-stall.com/general.html

chipperPhil & Ann Somerset
Name: Chipper
We had cats; as many as four at a time. We liked how they were pretty much independent, and you could leave them home for a weekend without worrying about them eating or going to the bathroom. Still, Ann would occasionally talk about getting a dog. I was apprehensive.
On a visit to a friend in rural Western Maryland near the end of 1997, a little black and white terrier pup came trotting up to us out of the woods. He was about four months old, and didn't look as if he had been on his own for very long. Ann said to our host, "If you can't find out who he belongs to, we'll take him."
I groaned inwardly, seeing my freedom slipping away. Needless to say, even after placing ads in the local paper and keeping in touch with the local shelter, we couldn't find his owner. After failing to get him a home in our neighborhood, we kept him. Ann named him Chipper. It only took a couple of days for my bonding to be complete and irreversible. He is the most well-adjusted dog I have ever seen. He loves other dogs, cats, and people, especially children. He is energetic and playful outside, but calm and quiet in the house. He housebroke effortlessly, and has been sleeping with us since he was about a year old. He's only about 3 1/2 years old, so he'll be with us for a long time. He generates a large part of my social life. I take him for a "play group" every Saturday and Sunday morning at our local school, and we now offer his services in socializing other peoples' puppies. I'm thinking of offering him as a therapeutic dog in a nursing home; he'd be great!

franklinName: Franklin
My name is Franklin. I suppose you could call me either a Doberset, or a Basserman. My mom was a Doberman who's family didn't keep a very close eye on her comings and goings. Rumor has it that my dad was a Basset Hound, but he's long gone, and I've moved on too. I have his legs and his bark, but mom's head. No one knows where my curly corkscrew tail came from. Some folks say I'm a hodgepodge of mismatched parts, but I prefer the term 'unique'. I have a nice place to stay now - dogs to play with, regular meals, and lots of treats, but I need my own home. I'm already neutered, (THAT was fun) and I even have a microchip. Can you play frisbee (I can't, but I wanna learn), and tug of war (I'll let you win if you play with me), and do you like to laugh? Well then, maybe I'm the dog for you.
I have my own webpage at http://crackerjill.com/dogrescue/franklin/

StirlingMike Worrall
Name: Stirling
My name is Stirling after famed Stirling Castle in Scotland. I am a Gordon Setter, the Scottish entry in the Setter trio (which also includes English Setters and Irish Setters). My nick names are 'Zwerdling' (after the NPR host of the same name) and 'Sturdy' because I can slam into things (a favorite pastime) and walk away unscathed. My favorite food is corned beef (NOT Hagis). I live with 4 cats and two humans in Los Angeles.

SimbaJim
This is my dog SIMBA. Simba has many names like "SIM"-a name I use to avoid the references to Simba of The Lion King (I got him in 1996 from the SPCA at the height of that movie's popularity. The SPCA said that over 50% of dogs and cats that came in that year were named Simba); SIMBINO-an Italian translation provided by Simba's other caretaker; SIMBY-a cute affectionate name that I really don't like but my nieces and nephews use so that Simba won't bite them; and SRIMALIE-the name of a friend of mine but Simba responds to it. I made SIMBA wear this ridiculous Santa Hat for a holiday card I sent to friends. He didn't like it but will do anything for a treat hovering over his nose. The little white beard you can see was his idea. He is adorable, strong, smart, funny, loving, has a great smile, and totally loyal. No...he is not available.

coco yoonName: Coco "Bundles" Yoon
Language(s): Korean, English
Occupation: Family pet & teenage mother Her boyfriend lives down the street and we don't like him because he doesn't seem too smart. He chases and barks at cars.
Likes: Eating, Playing w/Stephan, causing a ruckus, taking naps, getting scratched on the tummy, hiding under blankets and farting.
Arch enemy: My grandma, because she goes after her with a cane!

angiePatrick
Chihuahuas have a reputation of being high strung little dogs - and they are - but Angie, my childhood dog, didn't help this reputation with her total dependence on caffeinated tea in the morning. One morning she tasted some tea my mother had spilled in her saucer, and Angie just went nuts with joy. From then on, Angie was hooked, and made all kinds of noise, with the yipping and the begging and the stamping of her clicky little nails on the linoleum floor n the morning if she didn't get her tea with millk and sugar. My mother would put a little saucer on the floor and Angie would share mom's morning tea.

patsyNina Haft
This is my dog Patsy, also known as The Pretty Pretty. Patsy's teeth were worn down perfectly into the shape of a tennis ball. It was only after her eyesight went (at 18 years of age) that she lost interest in playing catch. Once time she bounced the ball back to me with the front of her teeth 38 consecutive times. I always wondered what the record for that was.

CosmoAmanda
Cosmo really named himself. Driving home from the farm in Virginia where we got him (him, small and black and tan and calm...us, instantly in love), we tried out a slew of names before we found one he liked. "Jackson," we tried. He whimpered. "Homer," we suggested. He whined. And on and on, as we drove down the seemingly endless route 7 late on a Sunday night. Then "Cosmo." No whimpering. No whining. Just calm. "Cosmo" it was. It's turned out to be a perfect name...he's not as much of a clown as the name suggests, but he's the best natured dog we've ever had. He's just a friendly little fellow. And the name suits him. Since we moved into DC we've discovered that while Cosmo may be a fitting name, it's not a particularly original one: "Oh, there's another Cosmo who lives around here!" (Yes, we know.) Another common response to a Cosmo introduction: "Oh, like Cosmo Kramer from Seinfeld!" No. Not like any other Cosmo in the world. Just Cosmo. Our little black and tan friend.

augie the doggieHi! I'm Augie the Doggie. I'm a bichon frise. While I love the attention my fluffy coat can attract, I don't enjoy being brushed and primped. And despite my fussy looks and wardrobe (don't ask), I'm really just a regular guy. If you promise to provide me with an everlasting supply of Augie Burgers and chew toys, occasional walks and lots of love, I'm the most affectionate, attentive companion ever!

jinksElizabeth
This is Jinks. I found her, a stray, on the street in San Francisco. About a month after I decided to adopt her, I was up in the Sierras with some friends. It must have been the first time Jinks had ever seen snow and she made the mistake of walking out onto a half-frozen lake. There was a guy - a friend of a friend - who was on this trip too. When he saw Jinks fall in and start to make a beeline across the lake, cutting her way through the thin layer of ice, he jumped in and pulled her out. I actually missed all of this, but I saw him right after, soaking wet, teeth chattering, and I immediately fell in love. He saved my dog's life and soon became my boyfriend. That relationship has ended, but Jinks and I are still together after seven years.
