Poignant and real
I saw the original broadcast in the summer of 1998 when I was 20 and it cast a spell over me. It's the reason I can still remember it 11 years later. At the time I was only a few years older than the featured kids and knew all to well the ins and outs of high school marching band. The budding romances, the goof offs, the brainiacs--it's all there. Mr. Zeiger is obviously a gifted filmmaker and loving father. The loss of his older son added extra poignance and was woven very well into the narrative.
