“I’ve been trying to climb out of the box all my life. I’m sure I’m nearly out.”
      --Rosalie Sorrels

Rosalie Sorrels’ career spans more than four decades and more than 20 albums. Her 2004 recording ‘My Last Go Round’ brought her a Grammy nomination in the Traditional Folk category.

Her music reflects a lifetime of traveling and a lifetime of experiences. But Rosalie is hardly traditional!

Her voice has been compared favorably with some of the world’s great women vocalists… Edith Piaf, Billie Holliday, Patsy Cline.

Rosalie Sorrels: Way Out in Idaho features a 2005 live concert performance near Sun Valley, Idaho, interspersed with interviews from legendary performers, like Pete Seeger, Utah Phillips, Nanci Griffith and Reverend Billy of the Stop Shopping Gospel Choir.

Calling Rosalie Sorrels “one king-hell songwriter,” Hunter S. Thompson once said of his friend, “Some of Rosalie’s songs are so close to the bone that I get nervous listening to them.” Thompson wrote the liner notes to her 1971 album, “Travelin’ Lady.”

“She taught me to cultivate your sense of fascination,” says Reverend Billy, a performance artist with the Stop Shopping Gospel Choir. “I try to adopt that. I saw her do it… She just doesn’t think outside the box. She casts aspersions on the box from outside. Hallelujah!”

Folk Roots magazine called Rosalie Sorrels “an authentic living legend.” But Chicago Reader warned, “Rosalie Sorrels is as far from the misty-eyed ‘folkie’ stereotype as good bourbon whiskey is from pink lemonade.”

Rosalie Sorrels: Way Out in Idaho was produced by Idaho Public Television, who also created a related Web site.
